Election Day A Federal Holiday?

Election Day A Federal Holiday?

Today on FoxNews.com, there is a story about Dumocrats introducing a bill to make Election Day a Federal Holiday. There are a couple of problems with the bill. First, Wednesday is the most productive day of the week for business. Mondays and Fridays are the least productive. Mondays being a day of getting back into work mode and Friday winding down from work mode. By making Election Day, the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November, a holiday, the most productive day of the week would be eliminated. And to top that off, who says if you give people the day off for Election Day, if they'll leave home long enough to vote.

The other problem with this bill is some of the provisions in the bill. The bill requires that a paper receipt be given to the voter once his/her vote is cast. The bill gives the right to vote to persons who had that right revoked due to being convicted of a felony. 4.7 million convicted felons to be exact. Nothing like flooding the voter rolls with 4.7 million potential voters for the Dumocratic Party.

Now I do think that the idea is well intentioned, but it's lacking in actual substance. It is a little bit of wishful thinking to assume if you give people the day off, they will actually use that day for the purpose of conducting what boils down to Federal Business. And what about election officials? Aren't they government employees? On Federal Holidays, all government employees are given the day off. So who would count the votes? Who will man the polls? This is just another pie in the sky well intentioned idea, that lacks substance.

Wictory Wednesday is a blogging group which I belong to under Gribbit's Word. That being said I'll be posting our weekly request here too. This week we are asking you to visit Preserving Social Security dot com and sign the online petition. The petition will be forwarded to the Senators of your state and urges passage of Social Security Reform.
